Ice, Ice, Baby...

In the spirit of the addition of Mia (the ice skating American Girl Doll) to our family, we decided to take the kids ice skating for the first time tonight. I was a little apprehensive about it because we all know that my girls are a bit on the 'dramatic' side (yes, I am being nice...if I am going to keep it real, I have to admit that they can be pretty whiney and overly sensitive sometimes). But, it is the last day of Christmas break and I was about to go stir crazy, so what the heck! Here is our adventure:
We all look pretty excited!!!

Here they go...

So far, so good!!!

Staying pretty close to the wall, but doing well until...

Whoops!!! I am slightly embarassed that I was taking a picture of her fall instead of rushing to her rescue...she will thank me for it one day, right?!?! Like my dad used to say, 'it will put hair on your chest' and like Jason's dad used to say 'we ain't raising a bunch of pussys'...okay, I have crossed the line from wholesome family blog to something entirely rude and crude. But, I do think this picture is hilarious!!!

Here comes the drama. Look at those big, sad, puppy dog eyes!!! Awww...

We pick her up, brush the ice chips off of her butt, and tell her to suck it up and put a smile on her face. Okay, maybe not it those words, but it was a pep talk along those lines...I think I see a smile:And she is off to the races again!!!

By the end, both girls were really enjoying it...they did MUCH better than I expected! At one point, Ash was skating pretty fast and kept trying to go faster...I was wondering about her speed when she asked me if she was winning. I asked her what she meant by 'winning' and she said 'There are trophies out there and I want one!'. Apparently she noticed the trophy cases out in the lobby as we came in! Isabel had an absolute blast...she didn't mind falling down at all:
She preferred skating with Jason...she says it is because he is faster, but I think deep down she just knew that I didn't have a snowball's chance of catching her from a fall.

Overall, we had a really great time...the girls are already asking when we can go back!!! Personally, the highlight of my evening was the hockey players waiting in the lobby for their turn on the ice...they definitely deserved a trophy for something...mmmmmm. I will be sure to schedule our next visit around a hockey game...after all, 'Baby, it's cold in there'!!!

Hilarious!!! Looks like so much fun. I am so jealous your kids are old enough to do fun things and you don't have a little one to tag along! Isabel looks so much like you it's crazy! Love their outfits. Funny post!
