Flip-Flop

The girls started taking tumbling in the fall and they LOVE it! They have taken a few tumbling sessions in the past, but this year they have really started taking it seriously because they want to be able to do the 'cool tricks'. Isabel looks more like a slinky than a girl most days...she is very bendy in the middle! Ashlen can get down into the splits in the blink of an eye, but her middle section is a little more 'sturdy' than Isabel's, so she struggled with the backbends a bit. The other day, she told me with confidence that she could do it all by herself. I refused to let her try without a spot, but after a few I realized she was correct...here is her backbend debut:
She is pumping herself up for the big bend!!!

Gotta kick off the shoes (another story for another time):

Here she goes...

And......

Success!!!

But, she is not done yet...she wants to try for the kick-over:

Off to a good start...

But, the height just isn't there...

And the flip is a flop, but the bend was awesome sweetie!!!

If you scroll back up to the top and scroll down quickly it works as a 'flip book'...
pun intended, of course! :)

A Rainy Day...

The girls LOVE anything spa related...so, a few weeks ago we were all stuck inside on a rainy day and they decided to dress up and make a spa. They were having a 'conflict of management', so they ended up splitting ways and each girl had a spa in her room. I was treated to both spas and then they invited each other to come to each spa. Isabel's spa focused mainly on the feet:
I left her spa with soft heels and purple sparkles on my toes. She was kind enough to provide her guests with a tall glass of ice water...nice touch! Ashlen's spa focused more on the face...specifically makeup. I will admit that I am not a big fan of makeup. My favorite cosmetic is, hands down, chapstick. I do use a mascara wand most mornings, but I wipe most of the mascara off with a tissue first because the clumpies drive me crazy!! So, when Ash needed makeup, she had no choice but to go to the container of costume makeup and dig out the bright pink blush and the cherry red lipstick. She didn't know that blush is only for the 'apple of your cheek' (which I am still not able to locate???), so she used it more like a foundation and covered our entire faces with it:Lucky for me, the flash faded most of the bright pink in the picture. Unlucky for me, she did this in the late morning and in the late afternoon when I went out to run errands, I forgot that it was on. I didn't realize it until bedtime when I was washing my face and noticed that the cloth had turned from white to bright pink. Ugh.

Baby Shower!!!

A few weeks ago, I threw a baby shower for my brother's wife, Sky. She is expecting the first cousin for the girls on my side of the family...it is a little girl and her name is Cora. That was my Great Grandmother's name. I know my good friends have heard me go on about this many times, but we have some really great names in my family and I wish I would have used them for my own girls. If I could go back in time, Isabel would be Adrien after my Great Uncle Adrian (I did actually suggest this, but let Jason talk me out of it because of the Rocky movies...but now I wish I would have fought harder for it) and Ashlen would be Zoe after my Great Grandma Zoella. If you ever need a cool name, just look at my family tree...we have an Anna, a Jordan, an Emerald, a Charlotte (another favorite of mine), a Duke, a Miriam, and the list goes on... I did find out recently that on Jason's side, Isabel has a Great, Great, Great, Great Grandma Isabel Roberts, so that makes me feel better for missing the boat on my family's fun pool of names. Anyway, I got off topic. Here are a few fun shots from the shower:

I sent each guest a sheet of oragami paper (in the nursery colors) and had them write a wish on the inside, then I had a student fold them all for me and I made a mobile of wishes for Cora:
At first glance, these look like regular flowers. Some of them are just carnations, but some of them are....baby socks and washcloths!

Gotta have cute little treats!!!
Here is my brother and his wife Sky:
My mom and my sister:
My dad, 'Papa', heping Isabel with a game:

Yes, I did the 'Guess the Melted Candy Bar in the Diaper Game'. I know, it is cheesy but I love it because I can always win this game. I will admit it wasn't as much fun when I couldn't play, but it was worth the laughs and the looks on everyone's faces!

Isabel brought her babies to the baby shower, of course! Ashlen was at a birthday party, otherwise I would probably have a picture of them arguing over the one on the left.

She can't wait for that baby to come out...Should be any day now!

Who?!?

I thought this story was 'blog-worthy':The other day, I was getting groceries out from the back of the truck and as the back door clicks down into place, Ashlen looks at the guy on our lisence plate and says "Hey, I know dat duy!!! I learned about him in school!" Knowing that they discussed the presidents recently for President's Day, I was not surprised. So, I reply: "Really? Who is he?" Her reply: "That's uhhhhh...Morton Hand-Lickin'!!!". Yup. Morton Hand-lickin'. Pretty close sweetie! I can't even blame this one on her adorable little speech impediment (if you haven't heard the kid say purple turtle yet, you MUST come over very soon before it is gone!)

I am a complete slacker with this, but now that I have a whole week off, it is my goal to catch up on all the latest Roberts' Family Events (nothing too exciting, really...but at least you won't have to wait another month for an update!).
