A Dreaded First...

I have looked forward to most of my babies' firsts...first solid food, first tooth, first step, etc, etc...but there is one first that I have been dreading for almost 6 years now...the first puke. It came last night. I know, it is amazing that my children have never puked...the kind of amazing that I tried to not share with too many people for fear of jinxing my luck. Well, I don't think I was careful enough with my superstitions this week. Monday night in the dance class waiting room, some of the mothers were discussing the terrible forecast for this week and I made the mistake of saying..."with weather like this, I almost hope I get the flu so that I have an excuse to stay in bed all day on a freezing day". Apparently, that request was granted, but misdirected (unless I have a surprise brewing in my belly that I am not yet aware of...yes, I am currently knocking on wood that I am not sick too) because Isabel woke up at 12:30am last night with a pile of puke in her bed. She came to my bedside to get help and to reassure me..."Mommy, don't worry, it is on my covers and not on Mia. I turned my head so it wouldn't get on Mia". So, I stripped her bed and she reassured me that she felt just fine..."like a brand new tummy", she said. So, I found a little bucket and put her in my bed (the big hospital puke bowl that was given to me by my good friend, which I now believe is the best gift ever, was stored away in Ashlen's closet and I figured there was no reason to wake her up if Isabel was feeling better anyway). I wake up ten minutes later and she is trying to aim into the little bucket...not possible. So, now I strip my own bed and am facing 6 loads of bedding to wash at 1am. To wrap it up, she ended up puking into the fabulous hospital bowl all night long and I spent my night rubbing her back and doing laundry. I was really hoping for a snow day today so I could catch up on sleep, but no such luck...we were pretty much the only school in the area that had school today. Luckily, Isabel thinks she is a puke expert now and she has been filling Ashlen in on what to expect in case it happens to her. Once again, I am knocking on wood......
I hope your family is happy, healthy, and warm!!!
PS-Aren't you glad I didn't take a picture for this blog?!?!?!?
